Why is my SAR image rotated?

Your SAR image may appear rotated from what you’d expect in an optical image as the images are oriented with shadows down rather than north up, as you would see in a regular map. SAR data is captured from a satellite looking to the side, rather than straight down, which causes shadows in the image. Presenting the image with the shadows facing downward allows for the most simple, square, and consistent visualization.
