How do I adjust my TIFF to 8-bit data?
SkyFi's standard TIFF files display complex 16-bit data that may not be compatible with all systems. To convert your 16-bit TIFF to a more simple, 8-bit format, please follow the steps below:
- Open QGIS
- Load in the 16-bit geotiff satellite image
- Double click on the image name to open the properties
- Adjust the color, considering the following settings:
- Under Transparency, ensure that the No Data value is set to 0
- Under Symbology, click Min/Max Value Settings
- Set the Cumulative Count Cut to 2-99.5
- Change the Gamma Stretch to 1.55
- Click Apply then OK
- When happy with the colors:
- Right click / Ctrl click on the layer
- Click Export
- Click Save As
- Choose "Rendered image" at the top
- Set a suitable filename and save location
- Click OK
The resulting file will be 8-bits, georeferenced, and easy to load into Google Earth, or a CAD program, like AutoCAD.
